Is your mom seedy?

Friday, May 4th, 2012
Sets of 3 handmade paper cards and 3 matching envelopes are available at Fresh Heirlooms.

Just in time for Mom’s day, we finished up a batch of handmade paper embedded with wildflower seeds.  Sold in sets of three (with matching envelopes), these pretty and practical cards can be written on, sent, and then planted in the ground or in a pot to sprout and blossom.

We made the paper itself with our used printer and copier paper, so it is truly the ultimate recycling.
Stop by to pick up your set or send your seedy mom on in!

Up  next: Join us on Saturday, March 17th at the Pittsburgh Public Market for a special class!

Crafts from Grandma’s “ARTtic”

Explore a trunk full of treasures from Grandma’s Attic as you invent new ways to use old materials in an art project all your own.  Create and recreate sculptures made from unwanted fabrics, trinkets, and surprise materials while tinkering with how structures stand up and stay together, how parts move, and how one Grandma’s trash is another kid’s artful treasure!  Each participant will complete one “Fresh Heirloom” to take home.

Class date: Saturday, March 17th, 1:30PM
Age range: Ages 7 – 10
Class cost: $8/ child
Register through Pittsburgh Public Market or email us for more details.

We are also leading summer camps in New Kensington.  Coming this June: Camp Creative at Westmoreland County Community College – New Kensington Education Center.  In July, Daring Designers will run at Penn State New Kensington.  Adults can also join us at WCCC for an exciting “cameraless film” class, too!  Stay tuned.

safety pin christmas tree

We found this enchanting Christmas tree -- tucked away on a shelf of mismatched dinner plates, rusty tools, and years-old bric-a-brac-- across the street at Paul's Second Hand Store. A crafter from way back created it using beads and safety pins, and it has been inspiring us daily!
